Brennan Johnson
Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed the departure of forward Brennan Johnson to Crystal Palace in a club-record transfer. Johnson, who joined Spurs from Nottingham Forest in September 2023 for £47.5 million, has made a significant impact at the club, featuring in 106 matches and contributing 27 goals and 18 assists. His performances were instrumental in Tottenham’s UEFA Europa League triumph in May 2025, where he scored in the final against Athletic Bilbao at the San Mames Stadium. Despite his contributions, Johnson found it challenging to secure a regular starting spot under manager Thomas Frank, leading to his move to Crystal Palace.
Steve Parish said: “I’m delighted that Brennan has joined us at Crystal Palace. He arrives very early in the window, so credit to the club for making this happen so quickly. Crystal Palace are such a great club, one that I’ve always admired. It’s a great time for me to be here and join the journey that this club is on – I’m super excited.”
The Dane said: “I think there are different scenarios. There are players that want to leave, there are players that are a little bit like, hmm, do they want to stay or do they want to leave? And then there are players that don’t want to leave. And that is the three different cases you need to solve between the sports directors, head coach, player and agent. And hopefully in the most cases, everyone is happy in the end of the situation.”
Johnson’s departure comes after he struggled for game time under Frank, who favored Mohammed Kudus, a £50 million signing from West Ham in July 2025. Johnson made 22 appearances for Tottenham under Frank, totaling around 900 minutes on the pitch. The Welsh international was informed by the club’s hierarchy on New Year’s Eve that he was surplus to requirements, prompting interest from several Premier League clubs, including Bournemouth, Everton, Aston Villa, and Newcastle United. Ultimately, Crystal Palace secured his signature for £35 million.
Johnson has signed a four-and-a-half-year deal with Crystal Palace and will don the number-11 shirt. He is set to be available for selection in the upcoming match against Newcastle United at St. James’ Park. This transfer marks a significant move for both Johnson and Crystal Palace, as they aim to bolster their attacking options with the addition of an exciting young talent.
