Alejandro Garnacho
Alejandro Garnacho, the 21-year-old Argentine winger, recently addressed his departure from Manchester United and his subsequent move to Chelsea. Garnacho left Old Trafford in August following a public disagreement with United manager Ruben Amorim and a desire for more regular first-team football. Ahead of Chelsea’s Champions League clash with Atalanta, Garnacho shared his thoughts on his move to Stamford Bridge.
Alejandro Garnacho said: “No.” When asked if he regretted the manner of his Manchester United departure. “I wanted to stay in the Premier League because I think it’s the best league in the world,” Garnacho continued. “I spoke with the manager [Enzo Maresca] before I came here and he explained to me the project, he convinced me and I’m really happy to be here. Sometimes in life, you have to change things to take a step forward or to improve as a player. I think it was the right moment and the right club. So it was an easy decision.”
Enzo Maresca said: “Today, in modern football, defending is an important part of the game because every team you face is strong and you have to defend with everyone,” Garnacho said. “I know I have to defend if I want to play, he [Maresca] told me this. So I try to do the work he asks and with the ball, he told me to go with it and if I lose it recover. So I have to help the team defensively but that is a part of football.”
Garnacho’s decision to join Chelsea was influenced by his desire to remain in the Premier League, which he considers the best league globally. The winger also expressed satisfaction with his discussions with Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca, who outlined the club’s project and vision. Garnacho is eager to develop under Maresca’s guidance, acknowledging the need to improve both his on-ball and off-ball contributions.
At Chelsea, Garnacho is embracing the challenge of working with a demanding coach like Maresca. The Argentine winger is focused on enhancing his defensive skills, recognizing the importance of defending as a collective effort in modern football. Garnacho’s commitment to adapting to Maresca’s tactical demands reflects his determination to succeed at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea is set to face Atalanta in their sixth Champions League match of the season. The Blues, currently seventh in the league, aim to secure automatic qualification through a top-eight finish.
