James Murphy, a devoted father of six from Stockbridge Village, passed away on August 23 at the age of 36. His life was marked by a courageous battle with cardiomyopathy, a heart condition that he was diagnosed with at 18. Despite receiving a heart transplant at 21, James faced further health challenges, ultimately leading to his passing. Throughout his life, he remained a dedicated Everton fan and a cherished family man.
Jessica Murphy said: “They told us, this was wrong, that was wrong, but every single time he got better. We thought, ‘they said in 2018 that he wouldn’t have long, it’s now 2025’. You just keep believing that it’s going to be fine. It just doesn’t feel real at the minute. He was lovely, he’d do anything for anyone, very family oriented. He never let anyone see that he was struggling. He got on with everything and helped everybody the best you can. He was just an all-round amazing person.”
Hayley Murphy added: “He was funny. I miss him – I miss his jokes and his character, he was very witty. He absolutely adored his kids. He was really family oriented. He didn’t really go out with friends, he’d rather spend time with his family.”
The family was informed on August 3 that James had only “around 12 hours left,” yet he defied the odds, living for over two more weeks. This resilience was emblematic of his life, as he consistently overcame medical predictions. James leaves behind his wife, Jessica, and their children Gabriella, Riley, Nevaeh, Esmae, Elsy-Rose, and baby James.

James’s story has touched many, with tributes highlighting his kindness, humor, and dedication to his family. A GoFundMe page has been established to assist with funeral expenses and support the family during this difficult time. Jessica expressed the challenges they faced due to James’s inability to secure life insurance, given his medical history.
