Rodrygo, the Brazilian forward, is reportedly contemplating a departure from Real Madrid in the upcoming January transfer window. The 24-year-old has found himself with limited playing time under the management of Xabi Alonso, featuring for only 81 minutes across three La Liga matches this season. This lack of game time has raised concerns, especially as he was omitted from Brazil’s squad for the World Cup qualifiers against Chile and Bolivia. With aspirations of representing Brazil in the United States for the World Cup, Rodrygo’s situation at the Spanish capital club has become increasingly uncertain.
Xabi Alonso said: “It depends on what we need in terms of the game, the workload and the opposition. I haven’t made a decision for the next month. This is important for the stability of the team’s performance. Today was a game to show that we’re still improving. We want to continue like this, now we’ll prepare for the Mallorca game before the break. We have twenty-odd players in the squad and I’m going to try to get the best out of all of them. Sometimes you can have a few minutes and be important, today Vini was important. My intention is that everyone contributes to the team.”
Rodrygo’s situation is further complicated by his competition with fellow Brazilian Vinicius Jr., as the two have been alternating starts. The scrutiny over his playing time has intensified since Alonso took charge, particularly with the Club World Cup on the horizon. Despite the challenges, Rodrygo remains focused on his ambitions, including a potential move to the United States for the World Cup with the Brazilian national team.
In a previous interview, Rodrygo revealed his decision to turn down a move to Liverpool while at Santos, citing his desire to make history with the Brazilian club. He expressed that although the offer from Liverpool was attractive, his dream to play in Europe eventually took precedence, leading him to Real Madrid. However, with the current circumstances at the club, Rodrygo’s future remains uncertain, and a January move could be on the cards if his playing time does not improve.
