Sunderland
Sunderland AFC is gearing up for an eventful transfer deadline day, as the club aims to finalize several deals before the window closes. The Black Cats are not only looking to bolster their squad with new signings but also to secure outgoing loans and transfers for players who are not in their current plans. This strategy is aimed at ensuring that young talents receive the necessary playing time and that those not fitting into the team’s future can find regular minutes elsewhere.
Phil Smith said: “There was a time earlier this summer when Sunderland’s business was well advanced and I thought we might actually be in for a quiet one. How wrong I was… There is SO much to do today, and it’s going to be a dramatic few hours right up to and probably past the 7pm deadline. We’ll bring you all the very latest as it happens, so stick with us!”
Phil Smith added: “After an injury to Liam Delap, Chelsea have approached Sunderland about recalling Marc Guiu just three games into his Wearside career. We know that there is no recall clause, so a mutual agreement would have to be found. Though there has been no confirmation and so nothing is finalised, it looks as if such an agreement is on the cards.”
Phil Smith continued: “They’ve been looking to sign a wide forward ever since a deal to sign Armand Lauriente from Sassuolo fell through in July, and that remains the case. They would also like to add another centre half, specifically Bologna’s Jhon Lucumi. But despite the defender wanting the move, the Serie A club have stood firm having already cashed in on some key assets this summer.”
Sunderland’s transfer activities are not limited to incoming players. The club is actively seeking new clubs for several players, including Ian Poveda, Timothee Pembele, Naz Rusyn, Abdoullah Ba, Jay Matete, and Joe Anderson, who were not included in the squad for the new season. Additionally, there could be loan moves for players like Leo Hjelde and Alan Browne, as well as promising youngsters such as Ahmed Abdullahi, Milan Aleksic, and Harrison Jones.
A potential surprise on deadline day could be the departure of Patrick Roberts, with Derby County reportedly interested in the player. Despite Roberts being an integral part of Sunderland’s squad, his limited game time this season has fueled speculation about a possible move.
The club is also reminded of the Premier League’s deal sheet rule, which allows clubs to apply for an additional two hours to finalize a transfer if an agreement is reached before the 7pm deadline. This could be crucial for Sunderland as they navigate the final hours of the transfer window.
As the day unfolds, Sunderland fans and football enthusiasts alike will be keenly watching the developments, with hopes of seeing the Black Cats make strategic moves that will strengthen their squad for the challenges ahead.
