Daniel Jebbison, a former Sunderland transfer target, is poised to join Preston North End on loan from Bournemouth. The 21-year-old forward will make the move without any obligation for a permanent transfer, as he seeks consistent first-team football following a challenging 2024–25 season. This strategic move aims to provide Jebbison with the opportunity to reignite his career after a series of setbacks.
McAdam wrote on X: “Bournemouth have an agreed a deal with Preston North End for striker Daniel Jebbison. Straight loan. He was recalled midway through the season due to injuries at the South Coast club and netted his first top-flight goal for the Cherries in May against Manchester City. Sunderland fans will remember that summer well. Jebbison was said to be impressed by the club’s facilities and fanbase, but ultimately opted for Burton in search of more guaranteed minutes. Since then, Jebbison’s career has flickered with promise but struggled for momentum. Preston North End will now look to provide that platform. The Lilywhites, who finished mid-table in the Championship last season, are hoping to push for the play-offs under Lowe. Jebbison’s pace, movement and ability to stretch defences could be a key addition to their attacking options. Whether this loan move will finally help unlock Jebbison’s full potential remains to be seen. But at just 21, time is still firmly on his side.”
Jebbison’s career trajectory has been one of potential yet unfulfilled promise. Initially, he impressed Sunderland with his skills and the club’s facilities, but he chose Burton Albion to secure more playing time. His stint at Bournemouth saw him recalled due to injuries, where he scored his first Premier League goal against Manchester City. Now, Preston North End, under the guidance of manager Ryan Lowe, aims to harness Jebbison’s capabilities to bolster their attacking line-up as they target a Championship play-off spot.
Kristjaan Speakman said: “We do a contract review right across the group at the end of every season. I think we’re in a strong position with the majority of the group this time around, especially with a lot of the players who have performed at a really high level. That’s part of trying to build the squad for next season. We don’t have anyone out of contract this summer and so that means there isn’t an immediate issue for us, we have a little bit of time to reflect. As I always say, it’s got to be the right opportunity for the players and for us.”
In parallel, Sunderland’s sporting director, Kristjaan Speakman, emphasized the club’s proactive approach to player contracts, ensuring that key players are secured for the future. With Premier League status confirmed, Sunderland is focused on maintaining squad stability and performance levels. Speakman’s comments reflect the club’s commitment to strategic planning and player development, ensuring that they remain competitive in the top tier.
The upcoming loan spell at Preston North End could be pivotal for Jebbison, offering him a fresh start and the chance to establish himself as a key player. As he joins a team with aspirations of climbing the Championship ladder, the young forward will aim to showcase his talents and fulfill the potential that has long been recognized.
