Bukayo Saka Arsenal
Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka found himself at the center of attention during the Spanish Grand Prix, but not for his on-field performances. The young forward declined an interview request while on the grid, a decision that stood in stark contrast to his England teammates Harry Kane and Dan Burn, who were more than willing to engage with the media. The incident occurred just before England’s World Cup qualifier against Andorra, with Saka attending the event alongside his national squad teammates.
Simon Lazenby said: “Bukayo, can we have a quick word? We’re live on Sky at the moment.”
Nico Rosberg said: “That was not very friendly.”
Harry Kane said: “I’m good, I’m hot. First [time at an F1 race], I’m looking forward to it, I watch the F1 as much as I can, a few of the English guys are doing well this season, so I’m looking forward to seeing them.”
Harry Kane said: “Lando [Norris]! I mean, he’s been doing great this year and obviously he’s got a great chance to win the championship, so I hope he can get himself in front today and of course George [Russell] and Lewis [Hamilton], it’d be good to see them all on the podium.”
Saka’s decision not to engage with the media during the grid walk drew criticism, with former Formula 1 driver Nico Rosberg labeling the move as “not very friendly.” The sentiment was echoed by some fans on social media, who expressed disappointment at Saka’s reluctance to participate in the live broadcast.
In contrast, Harry Kane, the former Tottenham striker and current England captain, was more than happy to chat with the media. Kane expressed his excitement about attending his first Formula 1 race and shared his enthusiasm for supporting British drivers Lando Norris, George Russell, and Lewis Hamilton.
The Spanish Grand Prix saw McLaren secure a front-row lockout, with Lando Norris starting in second place behind his teammate Oscar Piastri. This marked the first time McLaren achieved such a feat since the 1998 Spanish Grand Prix, when Mika Hakkinen and David Coulthard took first and second, respectively.
Despite the criticism, Saka’s focus remains on his footballing commitments, with the World Cup qualifier against Andorra taking precedence. As the young Arsenal star continues to develop his career, his interactions off the pitch will undoubtedly be scrutinized alongside his performances on it.
