Manchester City Target Nottingham Forests Morgan Gibbs-White as Kevin De Bruyne Replacement

Morgan Gibbs White

Manchester City have set their sights on Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White as they look to bolster their midfield options ahead of the summer transfer window. With Kevin De Bruyne’s departure looming, City are keen to find a suitable replacement, and Gibbs-White has emerged as a prime target. Despite Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz also being on their radar, City have reportedly stepped back from negotiations with the German club, leaving Gibbs-White as a key focus.

Fabrizio Romano said: “Manchester City have currently left the negotiations for Florian Wirtz. Talks were never advanced or at final stages, just initial approaches but City believe full package is too expensive. Morgan Gibbs-White remains on Man City shortlist.”

Romano recently said of City’s interest in Gibbs-White: “Manchester City plan to advance on Morgan Gibbs-White deal in the next weeks as he remains one of the priority targets. No issues are expected on personal terms but work to do with Nottingham Forest as they still hope to keep MGW.”

Gibbs-White, who is contracted with Nottingham Forest until 2027, is considered a valuable asset by the club, and they have expressed no desire to sell him. However, Manchester City’s interest could test Forest’s resolve. The 25-year-old has been a standout performer at the City Ground, and his potential move to Manchester City could mark a significant step in his career.

City’s manager, Pep Guardiola, reportedly approached Gibbs-White following their FA Cup semi-final clash against Forest, indicating the seriousness of City’s interest. Nottingham Forest’s head coach, Nuno Espirito Santo, addressed the speculation, emphasizing Gibbs-White’s commitment and focus on his current club.

Nuno Espirito Santo said: “Regarding Morgan, I see him happy and I see him working hard. I see him focused. Morgan is one of the players that because we know each other so well and for so long, we don’t have to speak. But I see him well. Just leave Morgan to do his job and enjoy his football. When he does it, it is amazing.”

The coming weeks will be crucial as Manchester City look to finalize their plans for the summer transfer window. While personal terms with Gibbs-White are not expected to pose any issues, negotiations with Nottingham Forest will be key. As the situation develops, Forest fans will be keenly watching to see if their club can retain one of their star players or if Gibbs-White will make a high-profile move to the Premier League champions.
