Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler has highlighted Newcastle United as the benchmark for success that his team aims to emulate. Ahead of their Premier League encounter with the Magpies at the Amex Stadium, Hurzeler praised Newcastle’s impressive transformation under Eddie Howe. Although Brighton’s hopes for a Champions League spot seem distant, they remain focused on securing European football. The Seagulls have already bested Newcastle twice this season, both in the Premier League and the FA Cup, at St James’ Park.

Fabian Hurzeler said: “First of all I hope he will be fine after his illness,” referring to Newcastle’s head coach, who recently returned to the touchline following a bout of pneumonia. “Second of all I think it was the first title they won in the Carabao Cup so very impressive. Overall they seem to be very stable, they have a clear style of play, they are doing a great job, so it’s very impressive how they do it and which way they do it. Of course they can be a role model for us as a club. Hopefully we can be as successful in the future as they are at the moment.”

Newcastle United is currently vying for a Champions League position, a testament to their progress under Howe. Hurzeler’s admiration for their achievements is evident, as he hopes Brighton can replicate such success. Despite some inconsistent performances, Brighton remains determined to secure a European spot. Their recent comeback victory against West Ham showcased the team’s resilience and spirit, much to Hurzeler’s delight.

Fabian Hurzeler said: “I try to be a role model regarding positivity, regarding trying to give this joy to the players. To still say to them ‘even when we have bad results, that’s the passion you do, that’s what you love, you love to be together on the pitch, you love to work hard, so you also have to love these challenges you are facing’. Of course a win like this pushes you as a person, as a club and the whole environment, but in general I always can say we have a very positive atmosphere no matter how the results are because, if you always get distracted and influenced by the results, I think you have a very bad life.”

Hurzeler’s focus on maintaining a positive atmosphere, regardless of results, is central to his management philosophy. He emphasizes the importance of passion and resilience, qualities that he believes are crucial for overcoming challenges. As Brighton prepares to face Newcastle, Hurzeler’s approach will be pivotal in guiding the Seagulls towards their European aspirations.
