Ronnie Whelan

Ronnie Whelan was to spend one more week thinking about life without Anfield after a bust-up with Graeme Souness which ended with the midfielder being placed on the transfer list. Aside from Wolves, Oldham and Tranmere were interested in the 32-year-old midfielder while there was a chance that he could move to Manchester City if their injury crisis worsened.

Ronnie Whelan said, “I really don’t know where my future lies, I’ve said enough about the meeting with Souness and I think I’ll just take a bit of time to sort myself out.”

Majority of the Liverpool fans were unhappy about the way Whelan was being treated.
