Manchester United recently managed to halt their losing streak by securing a 2-2 draw against Premier League leaders Liverpool. This was followed by a victory over Arsenal in the FA Cup, achieved through a penalty shoot-out. The team’s performance has raised expectations for their upcoming home game against Southampton, the team currently at the bottom of the league. Southampton has only managed to secure six points from their last 20 games, making their upcoming visit to Old Trafford a crucial one.
Amorim, the Manchester United coach, shared his thoughts on the upcoming match. He said, “I think this next game will teach me more from my players than the last two, so I’m really focused to see what kind of game we are going to play.”
Amorim also reflected on the team’s recent performances and the changing expectations. He said, “There were no expectations for us in the last two games, nobody believed in us to do a great performance or win a game. But now they are expecting us to win and to play well.”
The coach acknowledged the pressure but emphasized the need to approach the game with the same mindset as previous matches. He said, “It’s my job to be worried but we have to face Southampton in the same way we faced Liverpool and Arsenal. That is the goal. Not more, not less, play that game. People expect us to win and that changes things – but that is the pressure we want. We need that pressure as a team.”
