Unai Emery sat down with the media to discuss the fitness of his player ahead of Aston Villa’s match against Brentford.
Unai Emery said “He has a fissure (hairline fracture) in his hand (finger). We are going to train today afternoon and I don’t know how he is going to feel. It depends on the training today.”
Unai Emery answered a question about Aston Villa’s recent struggles in scoring goals.
Unai Emery said “The only way I know is to work even harder. Sometimes we score easy, sometimes we don’t score easy. Of course, when we create chances, usually with the players we have score goals. I am confident even when they are not being clinical. Hopefully tomorrow is a good challenge and a good day to recover scoring, playing well and trying to impose and dominate against the opponent. We need to stop them better than the last matches. The solution is to try through our work and try to recover. We want to play being dominating and being successful with our qualities. We are not thinking to win, we are thinking about the process to win.”
Unai Emery reflected on the significance of a potential win against Brentford.
Unai Emery said “Brentford for me is one of the best consistent teams in the Premier League the last year. They are tactically improving. It is not the first Brentford I knew when I was at Arsenal in 2018/19. It is not the same Brentford to what I know now. They are adding a lot of things tactically. Different ways. I respect their work and their coach and their players. It is a team which two years ago we finished the season in front of them by two points. If we didn’t beat Brighton they would’ve been in Europe. It was a very good success for them in that moment. They are a contender for the top 10 and we are fighting against them. Every team in the Premier League they have good players and a good coach. The confidence is always about balance. When we win the confidence is higher, when we are losing the confidence is under our usual level. We have to be in our process as well understanding each moment. We are trying to focus with the players how we are building the team, how we are playing and getting results. We have to analyse small details, they are punishing us a lot. This is the work. The table is so tight, it is about the details and we are working on it.”
Unai Emery conveyed a message to Aston Villa supporters.
Unai Emery said “Enjoy, try to get balance as well like us. Tomorrow at Villa Park we will need them, supporting us like they are doing. We need their energy. Hopefully they can transmit us their energy and then we can play with our capacity being motivated and intense with good and positive energy. Then we have to play intelligently.”
Unai Emery talked about his expectations for the match against Brentford and addressed potential January transfer window activities.
Unai Emery said “I want to dominate and control the game with our positioning, but I know it will be very difficult. Starting with their goalkeeper, he is playing brilliant in build-up, short and long balls. They have very good players in different parts of the pitch. I respect them a lot. Last year we have a good example, we were winning 2-0 and then in 10 minutes we were losing 3-2. At the end we drew. This is Brentford. Hopefully tomorrow we can get a clean sheet and we can play more or less trying to dominate and trying to break their defensive positioning. They are very organised and their high press is really strong. The club is working on it, but now I am focusing the match tomorrow and then the match on Saturday and then the match on Tuesday. Always we have to be alert in case we can improve something in the squad, but the club is working on it.”
