Former Arsenal midfielder Sam Greenwood says “I played for Arsenal and now I want beat them” after £1.5m transfer to Preston ( ahead of league cup)

Former Arsenal midfielder Sam Greenwood has shared his thoughts on the upcoming Carabao Cup tie, warning that it will not be as straightforward as some expect. The Gunners, having advanced to this stage after a convincing win against Bolton, face a tougher challenge in the fourth round against Preston, a Championship team. Managed by ex-Sheffield United boss Paul Heckingbottom, Preston previously showcased resilience in a 3-3 draw against Plymouth and have been in good form, losing just one of their last nine matches and defeating Fulham in the last round.

Sam Greenwood said, “It has definitely made me a better player, training with players like that day in, day out. It was very good for me, personally. It was brilliant and has set me in good stead for the future. It obviously makes [Wednesday] a bit more exciting for me. Anything can happen in a cup game. We have just got to believe in ourselves. It’s kind of a free hit; we know how good they are. We’ve just got to give it everything and hopefully we can win. The pressure is on them I would say. We can raise our game, but if we give it our all then they are obviously going to find it hard. It is not going to be easy for them, I don’t think. We will play our game and hope for the best.”
