Antony replaced Marcus Rashford in the 73rd minute against Fenerbahce on Thursday night. However, 10 minutes later, he went to the ground with an injury and required medical attention. Initially, it appeared that Antony might continue playing, but he soon went to the floor again, prompting the referee to call for a stretcher to take him off the pitch.
United are currently assessing Antony and will confirm the severity of his injury in due course. Ten Hag expressed his sentiments about Antony’s injury:
Ten Hag said, “It’s really unlucky for him. Hopefully, it’s not too bad, we have to wait 24 hours for what the assessment is. I haven’t seen it, but it’s only then I have to tell you out of the second hand. So from the doctor and the physio who told me what they saw. He is a threat almost every training so I felt in that moment to bring him, to decide the game… Amad you saw he had one or two actions, very pleased with all the effort and most of the players the quality. I think away from home in Europe in a hectic ambience, to start with four attackers is too much. So I know Nous [Mazraoui] is very capable to play in that position.”
Antony has been given limited opportunities in the 2024/25 season, and this current season carries the potential to be his last at the club.
