The international break may have paused the action for Tottenham’s main squad, but not for some of their young loan stars who continued playing over the weekend. With World Cup qualifiers, Nations League matches, and various other international games happening globally, most top-flight leagues were on pause. However, many lower league games in England, including League Two and non-league football, went ahead.
One of the notable young talents, George Abbott, represented Notts County in their League Two derby against Chesterfield. The 19-year-old Tottenham player marked a career milestone with his first senior assist. The match also featured former Spurs academy player Dilan Markanday, who provided an assist for Chesterfield. Another ex-Tottenham youth player, Nick Tsaroulla, made an appearance for Notts County in the second half. Chesterfield initially took the lead with a goal from Paddy Madden. However, Abbott, playing as a right wing-back, made an impressive run and delivered a cross for Alasanna Jatta, who successfully headed in the equalizer. Although Chesterfield found another goal through Will Grigg, County managed to equalize late in the game with a penalty conversion from David McGoldrick, scoring on the second attempt after his first was blocked.
George Abbott said, “It was unbelievable. The crowd were proper up for it today from both sides. I mean, it was a big game for both teams, and I think we both played pretty well. You could tell this meant a lot more than the other games I’ve played in. I can play quite a few positions, so wherever the gaffer wants to put me, I’ll play there. Hopefully the first of many, but it felt unbelievable getting the assist, and I’m really happy about it. And what about a first goal? Hopefully soon, and hopefully that’ll be the next time you’re interviewing me.”
Abbott has now made eight appearances for Notts County in League Two, clocking up 588 minutes of play. A late ball into the box challenged Bloedorn, but he couldn’t reach it in time, leading to an 81st-minute winner for the visitors. Bloedorn’s outing marks his 10th appearance for Aveley since his initial loan from Tottenham.
