The Premier League, led by Richard Masters, is in the process of developing amendments to sponsorship rules. This is being undertaken with considerable consultation and feedback from various clubs.
Richard Masters, the Premier League Chief Executive, wrote to clubs regarding the ongoing situation. In his communication, Masters indicated that there might be a postponement of a significant meeting geared towards discussing these sponsorship rule amendments.
Richard Masters said, “There have been many club conversations over recent days, with constructive and informative feedback provided. We are taking the necessary time to develop our proposals and the associated draft rule amendments for club consideration.”
The situation following a major ruling in a case involving City has led to diverse reactions from club members. It was reported that City has communicated with other clubs, contesting the league’s interpretation of the ruling as ‘incorrect.’
The Mail further mentions expectations from the clubs regarding the upcoming discussions. They report, “A number of clubs expect City to dominate with a lengthy exposition of the failings of the current system — and the Premier League will not even be attempting to lay out a timetable for a new APT system. Some clubs are expected to attend in person and some online.”
Different clubs have taken varying stances concerning City’s situation and the broader issue of the sponsorship rules.
Aston Villa, along with Saudi-owned Newcastle United and Chelsea, are reportedly sympathetic to City’s stance. The report also claims, “Everton have backed City too and it is claimed that Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis might prove another ally.”
Conversely, clubs such as Arsenal, Manchester United, Liverpool, West Ham, Brentford, Bournemouth, Fulham, and Wolves have thrown their support behind the Premier League administration.
