Newcastle United’s head coach, Eddie Howe, reminded his players of the expectations following their performance at Fulham. He expressed satisfaction with a 1-1 draw against Manchester City and was pleased to see his team regain defensive strength during their match at Goodison Park. As the team headed into the international break, Howe emphasized the need to improve their offensive efficiency, which had been lacking in recent games. Despite any early criticism, Newcastle’s start to the season, with 12 points, matched their best since the 2011/12 season and equaled last season’s performance. However, Howe aims higher and is keen on surpassing previous achievements.
Eddie Howe said, “I certainly think there has been a reaction, a positive one from the group. It was a much better defensive display after our last Premier League away game at Fulham so big steps forward. Every away game is difficult. At Everton we stood up to the physical test. I also thought technically we were much more like ourselves. We are trying to break barriers. And have an outstanding season. It is always my aim to push the group for more. I think we are capable of more. Our work now in the international break is so important. As Howe indicated at Goodison Park in his post-game briefings, it will take something truly special to better his own achievements from 2023.”
