Chelsea captain Reece James, who is currently recovering from a hamstring injury, has given supporters an update on his progress. The setback has resulted in James missing out on the start of the 2024/2025 season. Prior to this, he only managed to play 11 games last season due to ongoing injury issues. James became a subject of note particularly after making two appearances in May, totaling 30 minutes of game time, that eventually led him to miss the selection for England squad in Euro 2024. Despite his participation in Chelsea’s US summer tour, he encountered another injury, requiring him to observe the games from the stands.
In the absence of James, Malo Gusto has been performing commendably in the right-back position, resulting in coach Enzo Maresca deciding not to rush James’ recovery. Maresca confirmed before Saturday’s 4-2 Premier League win over Brighton & Hove Albion that there are still no updates on James’ recovery and when he’ll be able to return to the field. Meanwhile, cynosures such as Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Fernandez have responded to James’ update on social media. Reece James pledging his return on Instagram said, “Long story short I’m doing well. Hope to see you soon.”
Following the Instagram post, Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca underlined the uncertainty surrounding James’ comeback.
Enzo Maresca said “Unfortunately, we don’t have an idea at the moment [when he’ll be back]. In this case, he’s been very unlucky.”
