Mohamed Salah dropped a hint about his future at Liverpool after the win over Manchester United. The Reds claimed a 3-0 win over their bitter rivals in the Premier League clash at Old Trafford on Sunday. Salah was on the score sheet for Liverpool in the second half, with Luis Diaz also scoring a first-half brace to see the Reds run out 3-0 winners. The game also saw head coach Arne Slot maintain his 100 per cent start since taking charge of Liverpool in the summer. After the game, Salah spoke to Sky Sports after earning the player of the match award for his goal and two assists for Diaz’s brace. Several topics were discussed, most notably the Egyptian’s future at Anfield beyond this season. From January, Salah will be able to negotiate with clubs outside England over a pre-contract agreement as a free agent next summer . Below is every word of what Salah said in his post-match interview with Sky Sports. Emotions after beating Man United?
Mohamed Salah said “A great result. Everyone knows the derby is important for the fans and the city, also for the manager [Arne Slot] the first game here [Old Trafford]. We need to carry on and if you want to fight for the league you have to win each game.”
Was the high press part of the game plan?
Mohamed Salah said “I managed to be involved in three [goals] so I am happy about that. The manager likes us to press high and there were a couple of mistakes and we managed to use them – it was part of the plan.”
Is it different now compared to under Jurgen Klopp?
Mohamed Salah said “It’s not a big difference, with Jurgen we were always like this to get the ball as high as possible. Then over time, we managed to change our system. It’s quite similar from seven years ago, but the manager [Slot] has his own system and we try to adapt that.”
You seem to be enjoying your football, how was your summer?
Mohamed Salah said “I had a good summer, a long time to stay with myself and think positively. As you know, it’s my last year with the club and I want to enjoy it. I don’t want to think about it. I feel I am free to play football – we will see what happens next year.”
Was it an easy game?
Mohamed Salah said “To be fair I was surprised. The game was open, and we knew after the first half being 2-0 down they [Man United] are going to come and man-mark us around the whole pitch. I agree with you, I was a little bit surprised. The game could have finished five or six.”
What else has changed under Arne Slot?
Mohamed Salah said It’s tricky to say, but we had Jurgen for seven years and you can get into a comfort zone somehow. He always tried to push us out of our comfort zone, but when you are with a new manager for seven years somehow you get into a comfort zone. “The new manager comes with his style and he wants everyone to adapt, he had a few meetings with senior groups saying you need to set an example for the younger players.”
Last game at Old Trafford?
Mohamed Salah said “To be fair I was coming to the game it could be the last time [playing at Old Trafford]. Nobody in the club has talked to me about contracts. “It is not up to me, nobody talked to me from the club but we will see.”
