Ivan Toney will not be involved in Brentford’s Premier League clash against Southampton on Saturday amid transfer links with Manchester United and Chelsea . The forward has been linked with a move to Old Trafford ahead of Friday’s transfer deadline at 11pm. Saudi Arabian side Al Ahli had appeared to be his most likely destination, with claims earlier this week suggesting that the 28-year-old has agreed to personal terms. Chelsea are also reportedly interested in the England international . Since his transfer from Peterborough to the West London club in September 2020, he has netted 72 goals in 141 appearances for Brentford.
Brentford coach Thomas Frank said “I can say Ivan will not play on Saturday, Ivan is training well, is in good spirits and I am happy to answer more questions about Ivan next time..”
Toney’s stay at Brentford seems uncertain, with his current contract set to expire next summer. Without any indication of a contract extension, it would make little financial sense for the Bees to let their star striker leave for free in 2025. Frank has also recently admitted to being uncertain over Toney’s future at the club with Friday’s deadline looming.
Thomas Frank said “Ivan trained the whole week, trained with a good attitude in every aspect. He could be involved, he could not be involved. He could be here after August 30, and he could not be here. Basically, everything is up in the air. I’ve said the whole time that if he’s here, I’m very happy, if he’s not here, then I’m happy on his behalf. Who knows, let’s see, let’s see what will happen.”
