The Blues boss Sean Dyche said the Carabao Cup tie with Doncaster Rovers would be used as an opportunity to give first team minutes to some of his new signings. Jesper Lindstrom, Iliman Ndiaye and Jake O’Brien could all start against Doncaster Rovers. Sean Dyche is set to use the Carabao Cup tie as an opportunity to give first team football to the summer signings who are yet to start in the Premier League . He said the match will provide those players with the chance to make an impression as he searches for answers to a difficult start to the season . Ahead of the match,
Sean Dyche said “When games come around, show us what you can do, that’s what we want, especially with the new players because they have only had a limited time with us.”
Ndiaye has been introduced from the bench in both Premier League games, while Lindstrom came off the bench at Tottenham Hotspur – having the club’s only shot on target shortly after his introduction . The Europa League winner had featured alongside first team players Joao Virginia and Beto in the Under-21s’ win over Tranmere Rovers in the EFL Trophy earlier in the week. Dyche said the game would be a chance for people to “lay down markers”
Sean Dyche added “That is a message generally. I say every day’s a chance to show us what you can do, whether it’s training or whether it’s in a game. Obviously games are more relevant because it’s a more visually measurable part of what we do. “But even in training, players can learn and lay down markers and they can keep that high level consistency where you think ‘they are pushing’. So we want players to do that every day. But of course, when games come around, show us what you can do, that’s what we want, especially with the new players because they have only had a limited time with us.”
Everton reached the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup last season before a frustrating exit to Fulham on penalties. Dyche said that while this may be a game in which he planned to take another look at players who have yet to seriously feature in the league, neither James Garner nor Seamus Coleman are expected to quite be ready as they recover from calf problems. His intention would be to ensure it is one capable of taking the Blues through to the next round, he added. He said:
Sean Dyche said “I hope I have made that clear in my time here, that I do value the cups, I think they are important. On the other hand, it is fair to say that we are going to have to use players to get them fit, and fit for task, and the players that have come in and not had as many minutes game-time wise… but we will certainly be putting out a team I think can win.”
