In this blog series – “What Happened Today”, we are going to revive some of the moments from past which will revive moments of the golden history of the league.
Sunday’s papers in the UK covered the premier league matches played on the previous day where Blackburn Rovers demolished the then leaders Norwich City 7-1, Aston Villa won a dramatic match away at Wimbledon thanks to a brace from Dean Saunders, United draw 1-1 with Middlesborough, Manchester City break their goal-scoring barren run but only manage a point against Nottingham Forest in a 2-2 draw and a dramatic late goal gave Arsenal the full three points against their London rivals Chelsea in a 2-1 victory.
Wimbledon 2 Aston Villa 3
Dean Saunders scored twice to give Aston Villa another dramatic 3-2 victory at Wimbledon. The ‘misfit’ striker from Liverpool had then scored five goals in four games and a brace few weeks ago also helped Villa to beat this former side Liverpool at Anfield.

Blackburn Rovers 7 Norwich City 1
Inform striker Alan Shearer grabbed two goals as Kenny Dalglishes’ Blackburn Rovers demolished the previous leaders Norwich City 7-1 at Ewood Park to go top of the table.
Manchester City 2 Nottingham Forest 2
Manchester City finally scored its first goal in 400 minutes but still could not take full points at the Maine Road against Nottingham Forest. City went ahead twice thanks to goals from Rick Holden & Fitzroy Simpson but were pegged back by then bottom-placed club Forest through goals from Ray Mckinnon & Stuart Pearce.
Middlesbrough 1 Manchester United 1
Manchester United’s midweek clash in the European Cup was visible as they only managed to take a point against Middlesborough. Alex Ferguson’s side went ahead via a Steve Bruce penalty and had many other chances to go ahead in the match but they failed to take those and Bernie Slaven equalized for Borough to give them a hard-fought point.

In an entertaining and open game, Leeds United almost made a comeback in the game after being found three goals behind at the half time. Leeds did pull two goals back in the second half only for Ipswich to score a fourth and kill all hopes for the defending champions to get anything out of the game. John Wark scored twice for Ipswich.
Arsenal 2 Chelsea 1
Substitute Anders Limpar scored from his first touch of the game as Arsenal beat Chelsea 2-1 via a late goal at Highbury. Paul Merson struck for Arsenal before Dennis Wise equalized for the Blues. Arsenal missed a penalty earlier in the game and wasted multiple opportunities to put the game to bed before Chelsea came back into the match.
