While this game was very much a story of a defence poor defence unable to contain Arsenal’s attacking stars, at the very least, Watford fans will be able to take something from the match. Indeed, the first half bicycle kick from Cucho Hernandez was a delightful display of pure flair, skill, ambition and technique. The Colombian rose so high to turn in Kiko Femenia’s floated cross and it’s a goal that will be long remembered by the Vicarage Road faithful. Speaking after the game,
Roy Hodgson manager said: “It was a great goal. It was a very good move. That’s the thing. It wasn’t just a good goal. It was a very good move. It’s nice to know that the goals are there. And it’s nice to know that some of the movements that we do work on in training, like all teams – I’m not saying that we were the only team that works on its attacking play, every team does – but it was nice to see one or two of the things that players had worked on provided some dividends. Hopefully that will give us some confidence to keep doing it.”
There’s little doubting this will be the ‘Orns goal of the season, but it should absolutely be a nominee for the Premier League’s list as well.
