Lyon boss Peter Bosz says he “loved” Newcastle’s new midfielder Bruno Guimarães not just for what he did on the pitch but also for his role in the dressing room. The 24-year-old Brazil international was a shock signing for Newcastle United this week, arriving for a reported £32.5m from French side Lyon. Guimarães was highly regarded at the French club and was being tracked by Arsenal before Newcastle’s new owners started to make enquiries.
Peter Bosz said: “I understand the club, it’s a lot of money. But I’m the coach, and I loved this player. So much money. It’s really a lot. I understand the player too. We can say that he goes to Newcastle, who play at the bottom of the table. But we all know that in two, three, or four years, they will become a very big club. And he will be part of the history of Newcastle. As a coach, he was very important on the pitch but also in the dressing room. He was a winner, and a good guy.”
It is expected that Guimarães will make his debut for Newcastle next Tuesday against Everton.
