Earlier this week, Watford were supposed to play Burnley in the Premier League but the game was called off. This is the second time the fixture has been postponed, with numerous Covid cases and injuries causing the game to be delayed back on December 15 as well. As of yet, there has been no new date arranged for the teams to once again try and meet at Turf Moor. Speaking to the media in his most recent Watford press conference,
Claudio Ranieri said: “I don’t know if we play the fifth [of February], and after, we play on the eighth. It will be a little crazy. Why? We have a week free, and we can maybe play a little earlier. That’s it.”
Despite the hassle, he seemed to be glad that his players had almost a full week to rest ahead of the Norwich game without having to worry about the Clarets in the meantime.
Claudio Ranieri said: “I’m not so frustrated because when you play, you have to play every two/three days. It’s not so good. Now, I hope when we play against Burnley, they have some days more to recover with another match.”
Over the past five weeks, 22 fixtures have been called off in the Premier League due to the division’s Covid regulations. With that in mind, there has been some talk of the rules being revised. When asked about that possibility, Ranieri was non-committal in his response.
Claudio Ranieri said: “I don’t know. We don’t have information.”
He did, however, say he hopes they find the ‘right solution’ because it is important for football and for the players.
