Joel Ward is eyeing up a good FA Cup run for Crystal Palace this season which would start by coming through a tricky tie against Millwall at The Den on Saturday.
Joel Ward said: “We have an exciting group and an exciting squad. I think the sky is the limit if we pull in the right direction and continue to move on the path we’re heading towards. The magic of the FA Cup is you never know how far you will get and who you will come up against. I don’t think anyone would have put us down to get the final that year but that is the magic of it. We want to make sure we get ourselves in the right frame of mind before facing Millwall. It is one of those where we would love to go on another run and for the club and fans it could be a journey we could all go on together again.”
The Den isn’t going to be an easy place to go. Millwall have produced FA Cup upsets over Premier League sides like Leicester, Everton and Watford in recent seasons and will be cheered on by a sold-out south London crowd baying to add the Eagles to their list of scalps.
Joel Ward added: “They have probably played there more and more recently than some others have. But I think that although there isn’t necessarily always the experience, we have got players who are very mature and very comfortable in their surroundings. This is another opportunity to put in a big and a good performance to make sure that we hit the blocks running and go on a good cup run. We have been working hard all week to make sure that we’re looking at their threats, style, and the way in which they play and how we can make sure that we impose ourselves and put our game into it, and make sure that we come out on top.”
