Wolves’ match-winner Joao Moutinho said the win against Manchester United was ‘amazing’ given the talent the team has. With eight minutes remaining, Moutinho struck the ball from the edge of the United box and found the bottom corner to give Wolves their first win at Old Trafford since February 1980.
Joao Moutinho said: “For me, what what I want is to help the team, of course, with a goal. Winning here in Old Trafford, against a big team, very good players with a good coach, it’s amazing for us. We come here today to play our game, play football, play with the ball – that’s what we do … in the first half. I think we create a lot of opportunity, a lot of shots, but we don’t score. After they change a little bit, I think the game it’s a little bit more [open].”
Moutinho was then asked what United changed at half-time to match Bruno Lage’s system,
Joao Moutinho replied: “They changed [to] three centre backs like us, they play like us [in] the second half and they have a little bit more the ball but I think we control everything. We [let them] create only one opportunity on the bar but that’s it. I think we deserve it because of what we do in 90 minutes.”
Moutinho and international and club teammate Ruben Neves rarely lost the ball, winning the midfield battle with ease and were vital to the three points.
Joao Moutinho said: “That’s what we try to do, in all the games, sometimes we can’t. But today I think we do a great job, not only me and Neves [but] all the team. We deserve this, this victory this week. And I hope we can continue with this performance.”
