Wolverhampton Wanderers youngster Austin Samuels says James Maddison’s loan move to Pittodrie inspired in him to join Aberdeen for the season. Maddison joined Pittodrie on loan during the 2016/17 season as part of his development at Norwich City. Since then he has made a multi-million pound move to Leicester City, made himself a regular with the Foxes and earned himself an England cap. Samuels has Jay Emmanuel-Thomas, Christian Ramirez and Marley Watkins ahead of him in Scotland but the young striker hopes to make a lasting impact north of the border.
Austin Samuels said: “I definitely know that they do develop a lot of good young players here. Obviously Maddison is the stand-out one for me, watching him in the Premier League every week for Leicester. That was definitely a factor and something I thought about. Hopefully I can emulate that as well and kick on my career throughout this season and the seasons to go. When I knew Aberdeen were interested I wanted to come here. I know the history of the club, they’ve got so many good players and are always going well in the league, so it was definitely a place I wanted to come and develop myself.”
Samuels joined Wolves as an eight-year-old and enjoyed his first taste of senior football with non-league outfit Kidderminster Harriers in January 2020. The pacy winger had also played on loan for Bradford City prior to his move to Scotland.
