AFC Bournemouth is grappling with disciplinary issues as they gear up to face Everton on Tuesday night. The team will be without key players Marcos Senesi and David Brooks, who are suspended after receiving five yellow cards each. Additionally, Lewis Cook will not be available following his red card during Saturday’s match against Sunderland.
Andoni Iraola said: “That’s the reason they got the five yellow cards, because they have played a lot. Marcos, Brooksy, Lewis Cook. Now probably is the game where we will be with less options. But even with those suspensions and injuries, I think we have enough talent, enough players to put a good team and also good subs. Other teams do a lot more fouls, they have less yellow cards. I think I don’t care if they show me a yellow card for me or because I’m outside and even if I’m suspended, it’s not so bad. But it’s true that I think we’ve had, the other day was our first red card. I think there are a lot of clubs that they have a lot more red cards. At the end it’s the most important side because it’s where you play with 10 players. Even if five yellow means one suspension, we will always play with 11 until we receive a red card at least tomorrow. But also I think, and I repeat, the amount of fouls that yellow card we have I think is the lowest in the Premier League.”
Despite the suspensions and the recent red card, Iraola expressed confidence in the depth and talent of his squad. He highlighted that while other teams may commit more fouls, they receive fewer yellow cards, suggesting a discrepancy in how fouls are penalized. Iraola also noted that Bournemouth has one of the lowest numbers of fouls leading to yellow cards in the Premier League, which he sees as a positive aspect of their discipline on the field.
As Bournemouth prepares to face Everton, the team will need to rely on their squad depth to compensate for the absence of key players. Iraola remains optimistic about fielding a competitive team and emphasized the importance of maintaining discipline to avoid further suspensions.
