Bournemouth staged a remarkable comeback to secure a 3-1 victory against Fulham, overturning a deficit with a late surge. Locked at 0-0 at halftime and trailing with 20 minutes left, the Cherries found their rhythm as Antoine Semenyo netted twice, and Justin Kluivert scored a spectacular long-range goal to seal the win.
Andoni Iraola said: “Rain, wind. If you are a keeper, you don’t want like even finishes from far today because we could see even the first corner we put, it’s not clean. How do you judge the ball on the air? But I don’t think it’s the keeper to blame. I think they’ve been two amazing finishes. One through the legs [Semenyo’s first]. The other one is top corner from Justin. And I’m very happy for them and for what it has meant for the team.”
Iraola continued: “I think he played better even without the goals. Even he was playing better than the other day against Leeds because he was helping us. Even in the long balls in the fights, he was being a threat even if not finishing a lot of things. We’ve tried to encourage him to finish because there were a couple of situations in the first half he could have finished them and he decided to take other options. And I’m very happy because he’s in a moment obviously full of confidence. He’s making the numbers. So we will have to use other players, other sides of the pitch. And it’s always good when you have players in a good moment.”
The challenging weather conditions did not deter Bournemouth, as they adapted their strategy to capitalize on the opportunities presented. Semenyo’s first goal, a precise strike through the legs, and Kluivert’s top-corner finish were testaments to the team’s attacking prowess. Iraola’s comments highlighted the importance of confidence and adaptability in overcoming the adverse conditions, praising Semenyo’s overall contribution beyond his goals.
This victory marks a significant boost for Bournemouth, who demonstrated resilience and tactical flexibility. With players like Semenyo gaining confidence, the team looks poised to build on this momentum in upcoming fixtures.
