Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher hopes that the Court of Arbitration for Sport’s decision to overturn Manchester City’s European ban leads to a summer of heavy investment for clubs like Everton. City earlier this week saw their two-year suspension from European competition lifted after CAS ruled they were not guilty of “disguising equity funds as sponsorship contributions”. And Carragher, who says he has never been “a big believer” in FFP, says clubs like Everton can now demonstrate their ambition in the transfer market.
Jamie Carragher said “I hope Everton are allowed to invest more, and Newcastle if the Saudi takeover happens, so that more teams have genuine hope of doing things at the top end of the Premier League, What are the supporters supposed to do? Expect, for the rest of their lives, that their team will finish 10th, 11th and never win a trophy? A team like Everton, who are a huge club in this country, have gone 25 years without a trophy. Without investment, Man City would’ve gone longer without a trophy. I’d like to see trophies spread around and that could only happen if teams get investment.”
