Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has wished former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson a happy birthday. Given the rivalry between Liverpool and United over the course of the years, Klopp took time out of his pre-Chelsea press conference to send Sir Alex a birthday message as well draw attention to the birthday of Liverpool assistant Pete Krawietz.
Jurgen Klopp said: “I know it’s Sir Alex Ferguson’s birthday today, so happy birthday Sir Alex, it’s a big one. And my assistant Pete Krawietz turns 50 today, so another big football brain has an important birthday.”
Ferguson has never hidden his admiration for Klopp, tipping him for success when he took over at Anfield in 2015.
Sir Alex Ferguson said: “Well it’s a good appointment. I admire him. I know Jurgen pretty well through our meetings at [FIFA] coaches’ classes in Geneva. He’s a strong personality, very strong, very stubborn, determined and his performances, and his career at Dortmund was a stellar rise to the top and I think he’ll do very well. I don’t like saying that, being Liverpool, because I’m worried about it but, no, he’ll do well.”
