Alan Shearer Blackburn

Alan Shearer, a club legend and former player for Newcastle United, expressed his desire for the club to remain at St James’ Park despite ongoing discussions about relocating. The debate has been fueled by the potential cost of expanding the existing stadium versus building a new one.**

Alan Shearer, speaking about the significance of Newcastle United’s historic home, emphasized the importance of staying at St James’ Park. He acknowledged the club’s central location within the city and its rich history as compelling reasons to remain.

Alan Shearer said, “I think in an ideal world they’d stay at St James’ Park. Where it is works, it’s in the middle of the city. If they can extend, great and that would be the ideal. It has so much history behind it.”

Acknowledging the financial aspects involved in deciding the club’s future, Shearer expressed openness to exploring various options. However, he stressed the importance of maintaining the strong emotional and historical ties associated with the current stadium.

Shearer added, “Everyone would understand and listen to whatever is put forward, but for me, in an ideal world we’d stay at St James’.”

Shearer responded to suggestions of an extravagant new stadium, firmly stating his stance on not entertaining overly ambitious capacities. He recognized the need for financial prudence while aspiring for Newcastle United’s growth and advancement.

Alan Shearer said, “I wouldn’t even entertain an 80,000 stadium. I don’t know what size they would need, whether that is 65,000 or a bit more. We have to look at every idea. We all want Newcastle to get better and to do that they have to look at other sources of revenue. St James’ Park holds so many memories for everyone, so if it was up to me I’d stay there.”
