Sergio Aguero reminisced about his career at Manchester City as the club unveil a statue in honour of his contribution.
Sergio Aguero said: “Truthfully, it is a very beautiful thing for me. In those ten years I was able to win a lot of trophies and was able to help the club become one of the most important in the world. I am very grateful to the club for making this statue in recognition of my football career in Manchester. It is something very special. I remember I was very young, to see myself ten years ago is very moving.”
City are making the ten-year anniversary of their first league title with a celebration event in the city centre on Friday night where many of the 2011/12 squad will be present. The club have gone from strength to strength since, and as well as closing in on a fourth title in five years they have agreed a deal in principle to sign Erling Haaland from Dortmund to attempt to replace Aguero. For chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak, that moment of magic from their Argentine superstar when they needed him most was the catalyst for all the success that has followed.
Khaldoon Al Mubarak said: “It’s the moment that I think, changed everything. If you look at the ten years since, that was the moment that introduced what lies ahead. He is absolutely deserving, and I think, a legend for this club. These players, Vincent Kompany, David Silva and now Sergio Aguero, represents a type of football that is enjoyable, that is beautiful on the eye, that is effective and that brought with it a lot of trophies.”
