Ilkay Gundogan has hailed Leeds United’s unique style of football. Gundogan admitted his frustration over the result but said he had to give credit to Leeds for their approach to the match.

Ilkay Gundogan said: “It was frustrating, we tried everything that day to win the game. It wasn’t meant to be, we conceded two simple goals – maybe it was too easy for Leeds to score their goals. At the end they defended well. The way they approach the game is unique and they have quality in their team as well. So it wasn’t our best day but we’ll try to keep going.”

Gundogan is not the first Man City star to praise Leeds’ football this season, with Marcelo Bielsa’s side clearly leaving an impression on the champions-elect. Speaking after the 1-1 draw between the two sides earlier in the season, City defender Kyle Walker admitted he was left stunned by how the Whites approached the game.

Kyle Walker said: “It’s a nightmare for defenders, isn’t it really. There are no clean sheets. I am not bothered if Man City go and score eight goals. All I am bothered about is the nil at the end – weird things do happen. Leeds, I am promising you, was the weirdest game. It’s like Basketball. I couldn’t believe it. Seriously, I couldn’t believe it. Say, for instance, Raheem Sterling was playing on the left and he’s going over to the right. Their right-back is going over to the right with him. It’s incredible. But I think they have a system that works. They have, of course, achieved what they have achieved in the Championship and coming up into the Premier League as well.”
