Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans has said that he doesn’t regret staying at the club this summer, hinting that his representatives are still in talks with City over a new deal. It was the sixth defeat in a row in the league, leaving City at the bottom of the table. It’s a time that Tielemans admits is “tough”, with the international break providing a respite. Despite the current situation at the club Tielemans has said that he doesn’t have regrets about staying this summer.

Youri Tielemans said: “I’m not going to speak too much about my contract situation at the moment. My family is very happy there and that’s important. I didn’t leave Leicester in the summer as I always said the project had to be the right one. Just because things are getting worse now at Leicester doesn’t mean I should regret [staying].”

It was suggested to the City man that the World Cup could present an opportunity for him to impress potential suitors, given his contract situation at the club, but the midfielder brushed that off. He also hinted that talks over a new contract are continuing between Leicester and his representatives with a decision still to be made.

Youri Tielemans added: “That World Cup has nothing to do with it. It is always an honour to play for the national team and a World Cup is always special. Whether you are in your last contract year or not. It’s also not the case that I talk to the club every day about my extension or not. That’s work for my agent. In the end I will decide. There was talk of different clubs, but I won’t go into that.”
