Victor Kristiansen says it was a “no-brainer” to join Leicester City on a permanent transfer, but admits that it is “bittersweet” having to leave childhood club FC Copenhagen. The Danish left-back will wear the number 16 after signing for the Foxes in a deal worth £17million. The 20-year-old was hugely enthusiastic about his move to the East MIdlands after the deal was finally confirmed on Friday evening.

Victor Kristiansen said: “I am so excited. I just can’t wait. It will be amazing and I’m sure we’ll get back on track together. I’ve been waiting for this opportunity, it’s really exciting to be here and to meet everyone around the Club and the fans especially. These are the best facilities to be a top professional footballer and to keep my development going and to win some football games. I’ve heard a lot of good stories about the group and about the Club. It’s an amazing squad. I’m ready to meet all of the guys and say hello to them.”

Kristiansen revealed that playing for a “top team” in the Premier League – “probably the best league in the world” – convinced him to leave Copenhagen and join City.

Victor Kristiansen added: “It was a no-brainer for me to say yes to this great opportunity. I couldn’t wait anymore. It’s bittersweet to leave Copenhagen. That’s been my home since I was four. I have everybody to thank at Copenhagen, but I couldn’t wait to take this opportunity and join Leicester City. It’s the biggest league in the world. I’ve seen Leicester play in Parken before, in 2016, in the Champions League. I remember it was a tactical game, a big game for Copenhagen, and I remember Leicester being stable and powerful so it was interesting to see. I’ve heard about them winning the Premier League and I obviously know that Kasper [Schmeichel] was here a few years ago – a great Dane.”

Kristiansen also told the fans what they can expect to see from him in a blue shirt, and revealed his first impressions of manager Brendan Rodgers.

Victor Kristiansen said: “They can expect to see a powerful full-back. I am strong in the defence. I like to support the winger with a lot of runs. They’ll see a motivated player on the pitch every time, showing the passion for the Club and for the fans. I think, the full-back position, back in the day, was the most boring position, but nowadays we see a lot of full-backs have a really big role in the team. I like to do my job and see how it benefits the team. I spoke to Brendan about what to expect here and he just said I still need to be the Victor who plays for Copenhagen – to continue that progress and keep developing. Brendan seems to be a really nice manager and guy, so I am looking forward to working with him.”
