Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak has said he is ‘disappointed’ with the Magpies performance in their 1-1 draw against Bournemouth on Saturday afternoon. Speaking to NUFC TV, Isak was critical of his team’s performance and hoped his equaliser could’ve had a bigger impact than it did on the way his teammates played.
Alexander Isak said: “I don’t think we really reached our level today. With the ball, without the ball, we have our chances like we always do but a bit of luck and we might win that game. I’m disappointed that we didn’t take all three points today. The equaliser was very important, when you equalise, you really want that effect to help your team to get something out of it. I think we reacted well, could’ve been better but at the end of the day, we leave with one point and I don’t think that’s enough.”
When asked about what was going through his head stepping up to take the penalty in front of the Newcastle home crowd,
Alexander Isak said: Not too much, I try not to think too much about it. I just waited for the whistle and put the ball in the net. It was a great feeling scoring, but it’s not the same when you need to grab the ball and get back as if you have time to celebrate, but it was a great feeling. Of course, scoring a winning goal or scoring and winning is always better. I’ve always said the most important thing is to win and scoring a goal to help you win is better.”
Isak then spoke about why the team can’t seem to find a win at home and afterwards about the international break and how that could help the side refocus against Fulham in October.
Isak added: “In general, I think we just need a bit of luck. We hit the bar, we hit the post and we had some decisions against us but we had our chances so if we just have a bit of wind behind us, we’ll be fine. I hope so, it’s hard for me to know. I haven’t been here for too long but in these times, it’s good to disconnect, think about something else and when we get back, we’ll have to make sure we’re ready.”
