Manchester City defender Kyle Walker has admitted that he ‘doesn’t know’ about his England future after the Three Lions exited the World Cup at the quarter-final stage. Walker has made 73 appearances for his country, but at the age of 32, he has admitted that he will have to ‘evaluate’ his future when it comes to international football.
Kyle Walker said: “I don’t know, I’ll have to evaluate that. It’s not about me, it’s about this team and what strides they’ve done over the last four years in getting to a semi-final, a final and then obviously the quarter-finals before being knocked out by the world champions,” Walker told ITV when asked about his future.
The Blues right-back also suggested that the Three Lions played well against France, before praising his teammates for dedicating themselves to delivering for England at the tournament.
Kyle Walker said: “I felt in the game, we played well, we played the world champions and I thought we probably created more chances and it’s football. I’ve been in many games with England and sometimes you don’t get what you deserve. But I thought the lads, every single one of them, from start to finish over this month, have dedicated themselves to the cause and we just fell short.”
Asked about Kane’s penalty miss, Walker insisted that the entire team was behind the England captain and were there to support him after he missed the chance to level proceedings.
Kyle Walker added: “It’s football. If there’s anyone that I would want to step up and take a penalty, it’s him. He scored one and things happen, but we’re a team and we win together and lose together, he’s our captain and he’s our captain for a reason.”
Walker, like his other City teammates, will now return to the Etihad ahead of a busy festive schedule. The Blues are back in competitive action for the first time after the break in the campaign against Liverpool on December 22.
