Denis Irwin pinpointed Manchester United’s twin pack of power and pace to blow away Newcastle United at Old Trafford. The 27-year-old defender believed that addition of Roy Keane’s pace to that of Paul Ince and Ryan Giggs would mean that other clubs would find very difficult to keep United quite for 90 minutes.

Denis Irwin said “The pace of these players is awesome, its all the same to me. I am a full back and I know my job. But with the speed and power, we have now, teams will find it difficult to deal with it.”

Irwin also spoke about the free-kick he almost scored against Sheffield Wednesday where his shot from 22 yards was saved by the post.

Denis Irwin said “I caught it well but we didn’t really need a goal from me anyway.”
