As the contract saga continued and the performances of Roy Keane were getting worse, his manager Brian Clough had a unique piece of advice for him, “get married”. The Forest boss recommended that family way of life was just what Keane needed to ensure that he fulfils the potential which had made him the most sought after player in British football.
Brian Clough said “The best thing Roy can do is get himself a steady girlfriend, have a courtship and think of settling down to married life. Believe it or not, that will help him as much as any other help he can get from me.”
