Half of the Premier League’s fixture list this weekend has been cancelled, with Wolves’ meeting with Chelsea at Molineux one of just five games still going ahead. Brentford boss Thomas Frank has called for a circuit breaker this weekend, before Premier League fixtures resume on Boxing Day. But Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp isn’t convinced that is the answer.
Jurgen Klopp said: “I am not against stopping the league, I just don’t see the 100% benefit from stopping it compared to carrying on. Stopping means we stop now for one or two weeks. That means five or six games? When do you want to play them?”
Pausing football is likely to be on the agenda at Monday’s meeting, which has been confirmed by Aston Villa head coach Steven Gerrard.
Steven Gerrard said: “On the back of what a lot of managers have said, we want the same thing which is for the game to continue. There are obviously a lot of concerns and a lot of unanswered questions. That’s the reason that the Premier League have put in place an opportunity for all the managers to get together and I am hoping that there will be a lot of clarity which will come off the back of that meeting. There is also an opportunity for the captains to get together to speak and have a debate on what is the best thing to do in the current situation.”
