Dean Smith said “They’re recovering well, they’ve both had muscle strains. Only minimal muscle strains but we have to make sure they’re right and there’s not any re-injury. It’s been tough for both of them because both of them have missed pre-season and you’re susceptible to getting injuries then because you’re playing catch up. They will be back soon and we hope they will be back sooner rather than later because I thought Morgan Sanson was playing excellently against Chelsea. He had a great 40 minutes and showed a lot of what we haven’t seen for a while because of the injury and why we signed him, he’s a real top player. Leon Bailey has obviously shown what he can do with a gaol and two assists already, but I mean I actually don’t know why he wasn’t credited for the second goal against Everton because if that’s a shot and it’s deflected before it goes in, it would have gone down as a goal. I saw him and John McGinn shooting from corner the day before so that should have been credited to him.”
Both Bailey and Sanson are currently nursing muscle injuries and will not be fit in time to be considered for selection this weekend, as Smith’s Villa travel to the captain to face Tottenham Hotspur.
