Jorgen Strand Larsen
In a closely contested match, Wolverhampton Wanderers faced a narrow defeat against Aston Villa, with Boubacar Kamara’s powerful strike securing the only goal of the game. The match saw Wolves initially dominate, particularly in the first half, but they were unable to capitalize on their chances. A controversial offside decision denied Wolves an early lead, with Jhon Arias adjudged to have obstructed Emi Martinez’s view. Despite their strong performance, Wolves were unable to find the back of the net, leaving them empty-handed in their second game under new manager Rob Edwards.
Strand Larsen said: “I’m really disappointed because today we deserved more. In the last two games, I think we played two really good first halves, and we just can’t get to the end of it. That’s what’s lacking at the moment. I deserved a goal, the team deserved a goal, but the quality from them stops us. We’re often a bit lucky, because when the goal goes in, we’re just fraction offside, and it’s just really annoying. I’m just lost for words because I feel like we did a really good game, maybe the best of the season, until they scored. Personally, for myself as well, I feel better at the moment and it’s probably the first time I’ve been feeling fresh again since my injury, so it’s just a big hit for us to take there. Rob and the staff have been excellent. Obviously, we could have tried to be quicker out to them, but that’s the fine margins we’re not having at the moment. We also got a few big chances, Yerson hit the crossbar, me in the second half when Torres just touches it before I can tap it in, so we’re just really unlucky and everything just seems to be going against us at the moment. We definitely showed up today. We were the better team for most of the game, and we dominated the first half, and we definitely deserved to lead. But things are going a little bit against us now. Thankfully, the season is long.”
Wolves’ performance against Villa highlighted their potential under Rob Edwards, with the team showing significant improvement in their gameplay. However, the lack of clinical finishing and unfortunate decisions, such as the offside call, have hindered their ability to secure points. Strand Larsen’s comments reflect a sense of frustration but also optimism, as he acknowledges the team’s strong performance and his own improved fitness following an injury. The striker’s sentiments resonate with the broader narrative of Wolves’ current season, where fine margins have made the difference between victory and defeat. As the season progresses, Wolves will be looking to convert their promising performances into tangible results, hoping that their luck will soon turn in their favor.
