In a pivotal Premier League clash at Selhurst Park, Manchester United came from behind to secure a 2-1 victory against Crystal Palace. The win was crucial for United, who had been seeking to regain momentum in the league. Jean-Philippe Mateta initially put Palace ahead in the first half, but United responded decisively after the break. Joshua Zirkzee equalized in the 54th minute with a composed finish, and Mason Mount netted the winner shortly after. This victory propels United to seventh in the Premier League table, just three points shy of third-place Chelsea, with 21 points from their first 13 matches.
Ruben Amorim said: “When I see them training they are doing so much better than in games. You can feel the anxiety every time Patrick touches the ball. I can feel it, the anxiety.” Reflecting on the win, he added, “No, we just wanted everyone to understand the game. I felt in the last 10 minutes of the first half that the opponent was struggling, and that they would struggle in the second half. We had that feeling, and we needed to do something to change the way we were playing. We tried to change little things in the game – the intensity and the quality in the way we connect, especially Josh [Zirkzee] – he improved a lot the way we played.”
Bruno Fernandes said: “It was massive. We needed the three points after the performance and the result we had last week. We needed a response very quickly. I think first half was not great for us, but the second half was a very big response.”
The match saw Ruben Amorim make strategic changes, opting for Diogo Dalot at left wing-back with Amad Diallo on the opposite flank. The defensive lineup included Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt, and Luke Shaw, while Mount, Bryan Mbeumo, and Zirkzee led the attack. Bruno Fernandes played a pivotal role, providing assists for both goals, highlighting his influence on the pitch.
Patrick Dorgu, who started in the previous match against Everton, was benched for this fixture but made a late appearance, replacing Amad Diallo in stoppage time. Post-match, Dorgu expressed gratitude to the supporters via Instagram, acknowledging their unwavering support.
