Brighton & Hove Albion secured a commendable 2-0 victory against Nottingham Forest at the City Ground, with goals from Max De Cuyper and Stefanos Tzimas sealing the win. This victory was particularly significant as it marked a stark contrast to their previous encounter at the same venue, where they suffered a heavy 7-0 defeat ten months ago. The win also mirrored their success two years ago when they triumphed over Forest with only ten men. Brighton’s manager, Fabian Hurzeler, expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance and the positive outcome for the fans.
Fabian Hurzeler said: “We definitely enjoyed it today. I think we played well. We started the game good. Of course, when you arrive here, you have some memories regarding last season, but overall we came here to clean the air. Not only for us, also for our supporters, for our fans, and therefore, I’m quite happy that they have a good weekend.”
Hurzeler added: “Of course, we suffered in certain moments in the second half, especially with the wingers from Nottingham. They brought on some good individual quality but I think overall we defended the box quite well. Of course, you can use a one-against-one dual, but how do you defend afterwards? How do you defend the box? How do you stick together. How do you also suffer through this period together? That was impressive today and then, on top of that, we created a lot of chances in possession. Also in the second half, we had some big moments, so overall it was a good performance. For us it is always about the club, about doing something for the fans, doing something for the staff members. Doing it together with my players. How can we maximise the success? We know that last season we weren’t on our highest level here. We know that was a bad moment for everyone in the club. I think therefore you needed today players with big personality, players with a big self-belief with big self-confidence and a group that that sticks together and that’s what I saw today.”
Brighton’s performance showcased their defensive resilience, particularly in the second half when Nottingham Forest applied significant pressure. The team managed to maintain their composure and secure a clean sheet, marking their third in the last four games. Hurzeler emphasized the importance of teamwork and the collective effort of the players, staff, and fans in achieving this success. The victory not only provided a morale boost but also demonstrated the team’s ability to overcome past challenges and perform at a high level.
This result is a testament to the progress Brighton has made since their previous encounter at the City Ground. It highlights the team’s growth in terms of both defensive solidity and attacking prowess. The win serves as a reminder of the club’s potential and the importance of unity and belief in achieving their goals.
