Aston Villa Fans
In a dramatic encounter between Young Boys and Aston Villa, the match was overshadowed by unruly behavior from the visiting fans. The situation escalated after Young Boys’ player Malen scored twice, prompting a hostile reaction from the away supporters. Despite warnings from team captain Loris Benito, the fans turned on each other, leading to police and stewards stepping in to restore order as drinks and seats were hurled in the chaos.
Seoane said: “First, I think it’s normal when you score a goal that you want to celebrate with your team-mates. Maybe it was a small provocation, I don’t know. Our fans maybe took this like a provocation, but I think this is part of the football, our fans should not react so heavily. The referee asked our captain to go to our supporters, and he was going there to calm a bit, and I think some supporters came down to have a talk, and the police reacted like they would jump into the pitch, but it was not their intention, this is what I know, and I think they reacted a bit early.”
Seoane continued: “It’s a pity for everybody, for the provocations, for throwing the object, for thinking that somebody would jump on the pitch, and I think the result is not nice for anybody, and for sure we apologise. We don’t feel good. The way our supporters are normally, it is not how we want to act when we are guests somewhere, and I think nobody wins at the end, everybody loses with this situation.”
He added: “I think football is with emotions, but sometimes when we score a goal in front of other supporters, there is a rule, you should not provoke, and I think nobody provokes with a purpose. I think it was more the joy of scoring, but I have to leave you with the images, I don’t know, but I don’t think there is a story about rivalry.”
Seoane’s comments reflect a broader concern about fan behavior in football, particularly when emotions run high during intense matches. The incident highlights the challenges clubs face in managing their supporters, especially in away games where tensions can escalate rapidly. The manager’s apology underscores the club’s commitment to ensuring such incidents do not recur, emphasizing the importance of sportsmanship and respect in the sport.
The chaotic scenes at the match serve as a reminder of the potential for football’s passionate atmosphere to spill over into unacceptable behavior. It is a call to action for clubs and fans alike to foster a more positive environment, ensuring that the focus remains on the game itself rather than off-field disruptions.
