Granit Xhaka
Reports from Italian publication Tuttosport recently suggested that Serie A giants Juventus are keen on acquiring Granit Xhaka from Sunderland in the upcoming transfer window. Juventus reportedly hoped to entice Xhaka with the allure of Champions League football. However, a conflicting report from journalist Matteo Moretto has challenged these claims, stating that no discussions have taken place between Xhaka and the Italian club.
Matteo Moretto said: “I’m telling you that it’s true that Juventus are evaluating midfielders, it’s true that Juventus are also evaluating central defenders, keep an eye on central defenders, especially for June. I’m thinking of Xhaka, 33 years old, 11 games, one goal and three assists with Sunderland this year so far, contract until 2028. He said: “I would be very surprised if he moved to Juventus because he has only just arrived in Sunderland, he is playing well and they are doing brilliantly in the Premier League. I had read that he was interested, but it seems strange to me because it looks like he is happy at Sunderland. They are doing well at the moment and Juventus are struggling. It feels like a dream.”
Moretto continued: “I am not sure whether they can keep it up and qualify for Europe next season – it will be difficult. When you get promoted to the Premier League there is a great feeling and lots of positive energy. They have showed that in the first few games and their results have taken them higher in the league and made everyone more positive. However, it is a long season and a difficult league. They have started well and I am very happy for them. I do think they still need to focus on not getting relegated before they start to think about qualifying for Europe.”
The analysis from Moretto offers a realistic perspective on Sunderland’s current situation. While the club has had an impressive start to their Premier League campaign, the challenges of maintaining this momentum throughout the season are acknowledged. Moretto’s insights highlight the importance of focusing on securing their position in the league before setting sights on European qualification. Xhaka’s contentment at Sunderland and the club’s early success suggest that a move to Juventus might not be on the horizon, despite the Italian club’s interest in bolstering their squad.
