Mateo Joseph
Leeds United’s young forward, Mateo Joseph, currently on loan at RCD Mallorca, has expressed uncertainty about his future at Elland Road. The 22-year-old Spaniard, who struggled to secure a starting role under manager Daniel Farke last season, is enjoying his time in La Liga and hopes to extend his stay beyond the current campaign. However, with no purchase option included in his loan deal, Joseph’s future remains in the balance, hinging largely on his performances this season.
Mateo Joseph said: “I’m very happy here. But well, you never know, I’d say it doesn’t really depend on me right now, but we’ll see. I’m feeling great. This year I’m trying to pay a little more attention to the details, like my diet and everything. I’m very happy because it seems I’ve finally found the right formula.”
He continued: “In the end, Mallorca did an exceptional job [pitching to me], both the sporting director and the manager. They conveyed the confidence they had in me, and that convinced me from the very beginning. They knew me very well and had a lot of faith in me, and I want to repay that confidence.”
Joseph added: “I firmly believe that the more things I do well, the more of what the manager asks of me, the closer I’ll be to scoring goals. It’s true that there was a time when I felt more stressed about it, but now I feel very good, I think I’m doing things right, and that’s why I’m much closer to scoring goals, for sure.”
Joseph’s loan move to Mallorca was initiated after he found himself on the periphery of the Leeds United squad, contributing minimally to their promotion campaign from the Championship to the Premier League. The young forward sought a temporary exit to gain more playing time and develop his skills in a competitive environment. While the loan deal does not include an obligation for Mallorca to purchase him, a strong showing in La Liga could potentially lead to a permanent transfer, provided both clubs can agree on a fee.
Leeds United will likely evaluate Joseph’s performances closely, as a successful stint in Spain could significantly increase his market value. The club might consider cashing in on the player if Mallorca or another interested club meets their valuation. Meanwhile, Joseph remains focused on his current season, aiming to impress and possibly secure a long-term future away from Elland Road.
