Lucas Bergvall
Tottenham Hotspur has encountered a significant setback with Lucas Bergvall’s withdrawal from Sweden’s national team due to concussion-related issues. The midfielder had already missed Tottenham’s recent matches, including the Champions League victory over Copenhagen and the Premier League draw with Manchester United, following a concussion sustained during the 1-0 defeat to Chelsea.
Stefan Pettersson, head of the Men’s National Team for the Swedish Football Association, said: “Lucas Bergvall will not be available to play in the men’s national team’s next two matches due to the consequences of the concussion he suffered in connection with Tottenham’s league match against Chelsea on November 1.”
Pettersson added: “We had agreed with Tottenham’s doctor to do some tests during the week and then run at full speed so that Lucas would feel it properly. When there was a reaction, there was no hesitation.”
Despite the setback, Tottenham manager Graham Potter had initially called up Bergvall with hopes of him training fully on Thursday. However, Bergvall’s inability to participate led to his replacement by Newcastle’s Emil Krafth in the Swedish squad. This development comes at a crucial time for Tottenham, as they face a demanding run of fixtures alongside the busy Christmas period.
The injury list for Tottenham does not end with Bergvall. Mohammed Kudus, Archie Gray, Yves Bissouma, Ben Davies, and Kota Takai have also been dealing with various issues. However, there is a silver lining with Radu Dragusin making progress towards a return, having played 45 minutes in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Leyton Orient.
Frank said: “I do hope so. We want him back and no setbacks. I would say let’s see what happens after the international break. We are still [making] steps forward. It’s on track so far.”
On Kulusevski, he added: “Deki is still not on the grass. We’re working very hard to get him fit as quickly as possible.”
As Tottenham navigates this challenging period, the focus remains on player recovery and readiness for the upcoming fixtures. The team will be keen to have their key players back in action to maintain competitive performance in both domestic and international competitions.
